Vibration Damper VD22 is a rubber damper with a round head and a threaded stud. The damper is fitted between a vibrating machine and its base and breaks the rigid contact; vibrations and structure borne noise that would otherwise travel straight out into frames, floors and nearby equipment are caught in the rubber instead of spreading through the building. The difference is often heard immediately once the dampers are in place; both the noise level and the wear on nearby parts drop.
The round head makes VD22 a buffer as much as a damper; a hatch, arm or cart that runs against the domed rubber is braked softly without metal contact and without the sound of an impact. The fasteners are in zinc plated steel and the body in black rubber with a matte surface.
The series covers four sizes with diameters from 25 to 50 mm, heights from 13 to 30 mm and threads from M6 to M8. The basic rule when sizing is to choose dampers that are compressed a little under the static weight of the machine; only then can the rubber work. A set that is too hard isolates poorly, one that is too soft lets the machine move more than it should. Spread the weight over the number of mounting points and calculate per damper, not per machine.
Fitting is uncomplicated. Tighten against the stop with a normal joint and lock with a nut or thread locking compound if the machine vibrates heavily. Use flat and clean contact faces; a damper standing at an angle is loaded unevenly and ages prematurely. When replacing, it pays to change all the dampers under the same machine at the same time, since old and new rubber have different stiffness. Check the dampers during ordinary maintenance, because rubber ages even without load; cracks or permanent compression mean it is time. Count on a certain amount of trimming as well: if the machine still stands restless after fitting, a softer or harder set can make a large difference, and the dampers seldom cost so much that trying your way forward is out of the question. Delivery is in packs of 100 to 150 pieces depending on size.
