Thread protectors GA10 are transparent protectors in polyethylene (PE) that fit over external threads and protect them against dirt, moisture and mechanical damage. The see-through version is the big point of the series: the thread can be inspected without taking the protector off. At goods receipt, stock counts and picking you see straight away that the right thread is under the protector and that it is undamaged and clean; with colored protectors the same check means twisting off every protector and putting it back.

The series covers twelve sizes from M6 to M30, with lengths from 11 to 29.3 mm that follow the thread size. The surface is glossy and the material completely see-through. You pick the size as a variant on the product page, and the protectors are supplied in packs of 1000 pieces; they are sold in whole packs, which reflects how they are used in practice, as a consumable in production rather than as a single item.

Polyethylene is a well chosen material for the job. It is soft enough to spring over the thread crest without damaging it, tough enough to take handling and knocks in the material flow, and chemically resistant to oils, cutting fluid residue and cleaning agents. PE does not take up moisture either, so the protector keeps its shape whatever the storage conditions. The transparency comes as a bonus of the material being unpigmented; no additives, nothing that rubs off on the part.

Use runs through the whole chain from machining to final assembly. Screws, studs and threaded shaft ends that leave the lathe finished get their protectors right away and keep them through washing, transport and storage. In surface finishing the protector masks the threaded section against paint; keep in mind though that PE softens at moderate heat and should not follow the part into oven drying. In deliveries to customers the transparent protector also works as a quiet quality statement, since the receiver sees the protected thread as soon as the package is opened.

That visibility is what makes GA10 popular in operations with traceability and inspection requirements. Quality departments avoid having to choose between a protected thread and an inspectable thread, and in automated camera inspection the presence of the thread can be verified through the protector. Marking on the part next to the thread also stays readable if the protector happens to cover it.

Size selection follows the nominal thread size with no measuring; an M12 protector goes on an M12 thread. If the thread sits on a part that also has internal threaded holes to protect, you add threaded plugs from the range, and for tougher environments with sealing requirements there are caps with an O-ring in the same product family. Dimensions per size are in the manufacturer's data sheet.

The protectors can be reused in internal handling as long as they stay on with a good grip; in customer deliveries you let them travel along as transport protection all the way.

For purchasing the series is easy to work with; twelve sizes cover the whole span, the pack size is the same throughout and the protectors take up very little room in the store. Many choose to keep thread protectors on hand at every turning and threading station, so that the protector goes on in the same operation as the part leaves the machine. Then there is never a window where the thread lies unprotected in a pallet. The routine costs seconds per part but shows up directly in the scrap statistics, and it is easy to write into the operation list so that it survives staff changes.
