PE-100 is the tube grade of high density polyethylene, the version used when the tubes have to carry pressure and take being bedded in the ground over time.
The density is 0.96 g/cm³, the tensile modulus 1100 MPa and the yield strength 23 MPa. The elongation at yield is 9 percent and the ball indentation hardness 40 MPa. The impact strength is so high that the specimen does not break in the unnotched Charpy test, and in the notched test the value is 23 kJ/m². The dielectric strength is 47 kV/mm.
The material takes 80 °C continuously and down to -50 °C without turning brittle. The linear expansion is 1.8 x 10⁻⁴ per kelvin and the thermal conductivity 0.38 W/(m·K). The surface resistivity is above 10¹³ Ohm. The building fire class is B2 per DIN 4102. Food approval is in place per EU 10/2011 and FDA.
PE-100 is used for drinking water tubes, sewer lines, process tubes, tanks and welded structures. The tubes and the molded fittings are welded together with butt welding or hot air after machining.
