ECTFE AB is a modified version of the fluoropolymer ECTFE, where an additive adapts the properties of the material for specific demands in process environments. The base is the same as in standard ECTFE: a copolymer of ethylene with bound chlorine and fluorine, which stands up to strong acids, bases, solvents and oxidizing agents and keeps its properties across a wide temperature span. The density is around 1.68 g/cm³. You pick the AB grade when the standard version does not go all the way, not as an all-round sheet.

The load-bearing feature is the chemical resistance. ECTFE AB is barely affected by media that attack ordinary construction plastics, and the material takes up practically no moisture, which keeps it dimensionally stable in damp and wet places. The additive in the AB grade adjusts how the material behaves, something you choose when the installation has particular demands beyond plain chemical resistance. This is therefore a grade you choose deliberately for a defined job. The material also takes UV and weather, so it works both inside closed equipment and in exposed outdoor positions where other plastics break down.

In sheet form ECTFE AB is used as lining and cladding in tanks, vats and troughs with aggressive contents, and as guard screens and dividers in surface treatment. It works as a barrier between a load-bearing substrate and a medium that would otherwise break the structure down. The adapted properties make the grade interesting where a standard ECTFE does not go all the way, for example where the surface has to behave in a defined way against the medium or in a process with particular demands. The material shows up in the chemical, surface treatment and process industries where several demands have to be met at once and where a wrong choice is expensive to put right afterwards.

The sheet can be cut, drilled and machined, and it can be welded into tight linings and structures. As a fluoropolymer it is handled differently from everyday plastics. Welding needs the right temperature and technique and should be done by someone used to the material, preferably with a matching welding rod in the same grade so the joint keeps the chemical resistance. Clean and prepare the surfaces carefully, and try the parameters on offcuts first before you go at the real structure. A cold joint leaks and an overheated one turns brittle, so the margin between right and wrong is small.

The thickness governs both the protection and how the sheet behaves during welding and forming against a substrate. Thicker material takes more mechanical load and abrasion, thinner follows shapes more easily. Think through the fastening and the placing of the joints before you order, and store the sheets flat. Within the fluoropolymer family ECTFE is one of the mechanically tougher materials, and the AB grade keeps that base while the additive adapts the material for a defined job. That is why the grade should be chosen deliberately: it solves a specific problem the standard version does not cover, and guessing wrong is expensive to put right in a finished installation. So check the requirements against what the process actually puts the material through before you decide.

When fitting, you clad the sheet against a load-bearing substrate and weld the joints tight. The substrate has to be clean and stable, and the lining completely free of holes and poor joints, because otherwise the medium gets in behind the layer and attacks the structure from below. Plan the joints so they end up where you can reach to inspect and repair them.

Think as well about supporting the lining and storing the sheets flat until fitting. A well made cladding with the right grade and tight joints lasts a long time, while a wrongly chosen grade or a leaking joint gives you trouble that only shows once the process is running. The 3000x1500 mm dimensions make the sheet suitable for whole tank walls in one piece. The aramid fabric on the back carries the bond against the substrate.
