PVDF is a fluoropolymer for chemicals, related to PTFE plastic but with one decisive difference: it can be welded, glued and machined like an ordinary engineering plastic. That is why whole tanks, vessels and pipe systems can be built in one and the same material, where PVDF takes the aggressive chemistry and is joined together on site.
The material stands up to the acids that knock out most other things, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid, even at 60 degrees, and it takes chlorine gas and ozone. It handles 140 degrees in continuous service, far above what ordinary polypropylene and vinyl plastic manage, and it burns slowly by itself with an oxygen index of 44 percent, entirely without flame retardant additives. The density is 1.78 and the material melts only at 171 degrees. Moisture hardly bothers it, around 0.01 percent in ordinary air, so the dimensions stand still.
This product is PVDF on a roll with a backed reverse side, abbreviated PB, in natural color. The back has a pressed-in fabric that gives grip against a laminate, in the same way as the glass mesh version but with a different kind of fabric. Exactly which fiber the fabric consists of is not stated in the supplier's data sheet, so we do not state it. The roll belongs where a PVDF surface is to be backed against a load-bearing structure in a chemical environment. Do you have a specific application in mind? We will help you choose the right one.
