PA6 is a tough and impact resistant material that stands up to oils, greases and the cleaning agents normally found in industrial settings. A nut cap in nylon does not crack from a hit with a tool and is not affected by the temperature swings in a production building. Under the cap the thread stays clean; the day the joint has to be opened, the wrench goes onto a clean nut instead of one that first has to be scraped free of chips and dried on dirt.

The caps also serve a safety function. On machine frames, railings, gates and conveyors where people move close to the joints, protruding thread ends are a classic in the risk assessment; a cap in a softer material than the steel designs out the risk of scrapes and part of the pinch risk. The caps also reduce the risk of clothing and lifting slings catching on protruding threads, a scenario that otherwise ends in a production stop or worse. In public places the caps do the same job against curious fingers.

There is a third function that rarely makes the catalogue. A plant where every joint carries the same caps looks cared for, and on an inspection round it shows straight away if a cap is missing; then you also know where someone has been with a wrench since the last inspection. The color can be used for marking as well, for example to tell joints with different tightening torques or inspection intervals apart.

Typical users are machine builders who want to deliver a frame that looks finished, property and operations organizations that protect joints in public spaces, and maintenance departments that have grown tired of brushing rust out of threads. The caps are usually bought by the pack and put in the store; they weigh next to nothing and take up no room.

Choose the cap by the thread size of the joint and check the height if the screw end sticks out a little above the nut; the cap has to swallow both nut and thread end to snap on properly. The widths across flats follow standard nuts, but older or imported joints can differ, so measure the flats with a caliper if you are unsure. It takes ten seconds and saves a return shipment. If the joint sits outdoors or in a wet area the cap does extra good by keeping splashes away from the thread, but check the joint on the ordinary schedule; a cap does not replace an inspection.

An open nut is a small thing that tells you how the plant is doing. The thread collects dirt, the flats rust and a protruding screw end tears at both clothing and knuckles. Nut cap MS10 in the white version is a cap in PA6 (nylon 6) that clips over the nut and the screw end; in a second the joint is protected, neat and safe to touch.

In this color the series covers five sizes, from M6 to M20, with widths across flats of 10 to 30 mm and heights of 12 to 32.5 mm. The surface is matte. The cap is shaped to the geometry of a hex nut and grips over the flats by its own springiness; no glue and no tools, and it comes off and goes back on at service. Fitting needs no instruction. Push the cap straight over the nut until it bottoms out, done.

MS10 in the white version is supplied in packs of 100 to 1 000 caps depending on size. The same model also comes in black and gray, each with its own range of sizes; pick the color on the respective product page.
