Adjustable feet SF11 black

Adjustable Feet SF11 is a series of plastic leveling feet for machine frames, tables and fittings in a workshop environment. The foot is screwed into a threaded hole in the frame leg and compensates for uneven floors; you wind it in or out until the equipment stands level, without shims and packing pieces. SF11 is a fixed leveling foot with a slot in the bottom and a wrench grip on the base. So you can adjust the height with a wrench even when the machine is already in place, without having to reach it from below.

The foot body is injection molded in PA6, that is nylon, a tough engineering material with good wear resistance and high impact strength. The material stands up to oils, greases and most cleaning agents found in a workshop, and it takes knocks and daily handling without cracking. PA6 does take up some moisture, but in a leveling foot that does not affect the function to any noticeable degree. The screw is in zinc plated steel, which gives basic corrosion protection in a normal indoor environment. The color is black and the surface matte, a combination that blends in under most machines and does not draw attention to dust or small blemishes.

The series is sold as one product where the dimensions are variants, so you choose the design directly on the product page. SF11 comes in twelve designs, all with a foot diameter of 29 mm and a foot height of 12 mm. The thread is M8 or M10 and the screw lengths run from 20 to 60 mm, which gives plenty of room to match both slim and heavier frame tubes within the same foot size. You choose the screw length by wall thickness and the adjustment range you want; a longer screw gives a larger range but also takes more space under the leg. Check the dimensions against your structure in the data sheet before you order.

Where do the feet end up in practice? Under machine frames, conveyors, packing tables, electrical cabinets and control cabinets in Swedish engineering workshops, but just as often under control panels, scales and store fittings where the floor is rarely as flat as the drawing assumes. A plastic foot does not rust, does not scratch the floor and also damps some of the structure borne noise that otherwise travels from machine to concrete floor. That makes it a good choice in food related environments and in premises that are wet cleaned often. And if the machine has to be moved you simply wind the foot out and reuse it on the next frame.

A tip from the workshop floor: buy a few more than you need. Feet disappear during moves and rebuilds, and it is galling to stand there with three new feet for a four legged frame.

Mounting is quick. Drill and tap a hole in the frame tube, or use a welded in threaded plate, screw in the foot and set the height. The thread should run easily all the way; if it sticks the hole is probably tapped at an angle, and forcing it does not help, redo the hole instead. If you want to lock the setting you counter with a hex nut against the underside of the frame. The supplier documentation states no load figure for this particular series; allow for that by choosing a coarser thread and a larger foot diameter if the equipment is heavy, and check against the data sheet if you are unsure. Keep in mind as well that the load should be spread evenly over all the feet, and that soft or sensitive floors can justify a larger foot diameter since the pressure against the surface drops as the base area grows.
