Plastics in contact with food and drink
Livsmedelsindustrin ställer höga krav på material. Vilka plaster är lämpliga när hygien och säkerhet är avgörande?
Materialval för olika tillämpningar
PTFE is often used in conveyor belts thanks to its unique properties. It has excellent non-stick properties, meaning that materials do not stick to it. It also has high chemical resistance and can withstand high temperatures. We supply PTFE in the form of sheets, round rods, tubes, film and fabric.
Polyethylene (PE) is another common material used in conveyor belts. Newly produced polyethylene is, as standard, approved for contact with foodstuffs. Depending on the application, PE-500 (also known as PEHD-500) or PE-1000 (also known as PEHD-1000) may be suitable. If the food does not come into direct contact with the plastic, PE Bulk UV can be used, particularly where good wear and sliding properties are required.
For rollers or machine components such as wheels and gear wheels, PA6 E FG (nylon) is a good option. This material is available as sheet, round bar and tube blanks.
PEEK UD and PEEK MD are other materials that can be used in machine components. PEEK MD is detectable by metal detectors and has a classic blue colour for visual identification. PEEK UD is ultra-detectable and can be detected by both metal detectors and X-rays; this material is also blue.
Plast i storkök och restaurangkök
In commercial and restaurant kitchens, hygiene standards are extremely high. Strong cleaning agents are often used, which places high demands on the chemical resistance of the plastic.
Kitchen equipment is often mounted on castors. Trolleys of various types are common. A stainless steel frame with castors made from PA6 is an excellent solution. If a smoother-running castor is required, LC-RF PA6/PUR can be used. We can also supply chopping boards in your required size made from PE-500. The material is available in several colours, such as natural white, black, blue, green, red, brown and grey. PE-500 can also be used as protective edging in kitchens, corridors or warehouses.
Since the onset of Covid-19, the need for protection has increased. Transparent plastic cough guards are common in checkout areas. In the food industry, too, there is a need to be able to observe processes without touching them. PETG is a good choice, as it is food-grade, transparent and impact-resistant.
