Livsmedelsförpackning och teknisk plast: Två skilda världar
When we think of plastics, it is easy to associate them with packaging. This is understandable, as packaging accounts for a large proportion of the plastic waste we see around us. However, there is another type of plastic – engineering plastics – which is markedly different. It is used in the manufacture of products and structures with entirely different requirements.
We offer a wide range of engineering plastics, such as PE-HD, PE-1000, POM C and PA6. These materials are engineering materials designed for use in applications with high demands in terms of wear and stress. Their service life is often measured in decades, in contrast to single-use packaging.
Vad är teknisk plast?
Engineering plastics are developed to meet specific needs across various industries. They are used in products that require high mechanical strength, chemical resistance and other specialised properties. For example, they can be found in machine parts, vehicle components and building materials.
One key characteristic is precisely its long service life. Whilst packaging plastics are often intended for single use, engineering plastics can be used for many years without losing their properties. They are designed to withstand harsh conditions, in contrast to packaging plastics, which are often optimised for low cost and weight.
Teknisk plast och miljön
Many people believe that all plastics are bad for the environment. However, engineering plastics can actually have a positive environmental impact. By replacing metal with engineering plastics in products and structures, we can reduce weight, leading to lower energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
Vi erbjuder till exempel PA6, som har en Shore-hårdhet på 65° D. Materialet är lätt och har en hög mekanisk styrka, vilket gör det lämpligt för fordonskomponenter och andra högpresterande produkter. Genom att välja PA6 istället för metall kan produktvikten och energiförbrukningen minskas.
Engineering plastics are designed to be efficient and sustainable, whereas packaging plastics often prioritise low cost. Furthermore, engineering plastics are recyclable and can be used in new products.
Reducing environmental impact
How can we reduce the environmental impact of plastics? Increased recycling is a key measure. By recycling plastics, we reduce waste in the natural environment and the need for new raw materials.
