Vibration Damper VD21 is a rubber damper with a conical head and a threaded stud. The damper is fitted between a vibrating machine and its base and breaks the rigid contact; vibrations and structure borne noise that would otherwise travel straight out into frames, floors and nearby equipment are caught in the rubber instead of spreading through the building. The difference is often heard immediately once the dampers are in place; both the noise level and the wear on nearby parts drop.
The conical head makes VD21 just as useful as a buffer and end stop as it is as a pure vibration damper; when a moving part runs against the conical rubber the resistance increases gradually, and the stop becomes soft instead of abrupt. The fasteners are in zinc plated steel and the body in black rubber with a matte surface.
The series covers eight sizes with diameters from 10 to 118 mm, heights from 10 to 136 mm and threads from M5 to M16. The basic rule when sizing is to choose dampers that are compressed a little under the static weight of the machine; only then can the rubber work. A set that is too hard isolates poorly, one that is too soft lets the machine move more than it should. Spread the weight over the number of mounting points and calculate per damper, not per machine.
