Tube in POM C 3000 mm black

POM C, also called acetal copolymer, is an engineering plastic that combines stiffness, dimensional stability and low friction. The material has a density of 1.41 g/cm³ and handles continuous use at 105 degrees. In the cold it keeps its shape all the way down to -40 degrees, which makes it usable in cold stores and outdoor applications as well.

Water absorption sits around 0.8 percent. That is low for an engineering plastic and means a turned part keeps its tolerances whether the workshop is damp or dry. The flammability rating is HB per UL 94.

Mechanically POM C behaves more evenly than the stiffer POM H. The material is tougher, less sensitive to stress cracking and handles alternating loads better. The coefficient of friction against steel is low and the wear even, which means tube blanks in POM C often end up in bearing and sliding applications where lubrication is difficult or unsuitable.

Chemically POM C handles most solvents, oils, greases and weak bases. Strong acids and oxidizing media break the material down, so for such media another plastic is recommended. Against water, hot water included, POM C does well and the dimensions stay put over time.

The tube format is made specifically for components where a through hole makes the roughing unnecessary. Typical applications are bushings and bearing sleeves in conveyor belts, spacer tubes in assembly fixtures, spool sleeves in pneumatics and hydraulics, and rotor sleeves in pumps and fans. Many designers choose tube over round rod when the wall thickness is small in relation to the diameter; it cuts both chips and machining time.

Machining is done with ordinary tools for plastic turning and milling. Sharp inserts, high cutting speeds and good chip ejection give a clean surface and fine tolerances. POM C does not hot air weld the way PE or PP does, but it is bonded mechanically or pressed into a metal housing without trouble. When drilling deep holes, remember that the material expands thermally; flush with compressed air to keep the temperature down.

In terms of color, POM C is usually supplied in natural (slightly yellowish white) or black. The natural material is approved for many food contact applications, but for assured food grade approved use you should pick the POM C FG grade.

The tube measures 3000 mm in length and is black. As a turning blank the tubular profile saves material and time when the final part is going to be hollow. The copolymer slides and wears well, which makes the tube suitable for liners and slide bushings.
