PPE, that is polyphenylene ether, is a stiff and dimensionally stable engineering plastic that insulates well electrically. The PPE we sell is always modified, blended with polystyrene so that it can be machined. The material is amorphous, which means it has no melting point but softens gradually.

What makes PPE useful is the combination of stiffness, dimensional stability and really low moisture absorption. The material takes up only 0.04 percent water on immersion, so the measurements stay put even in a damp environment, and it is a good electrical insulator. Tensile strength is 57 MPa and ball indentation hardness 146 MPa, and the material is tough with an elongation at break of 22 percent. It handles 85 degrees in continuous operation and 110 degrees for short periods, and it only starts to soften toward its glass transition at 145 degrees. The density is low for an engineering plastic, 1.08, so the parts come out light. PPE can be welded, glued and machined.

This product is a sheet in PPE, 3000 x 620 mm in gray. The long format suits cutting up into insulators, covers, valve parts and machine parts where the measurement has to hold even in a damp environment. Gray is the standard color for this PPE grade.
