Machine feet SF37 yellow

Some machines need more than leveling; they need damping. Machine foot SF37 is an adjustable foot in zinc plated steel with a rubber damper at the bottom that takes care of vibration and structure borne noise before it travels out into the floor and on through the building. The yellow color shows up clearly in the machine shop, which is a point in itself where forklifts and pallet trucks move close to the feet of the machines.

The series comes in three sizes. The smallest has a damper diameter of 80 mm, an M12 x 100 mm spindle and takes an axial load of 600 kg. The middle size has a diameter of 120 mm, an M16 x 120 mm spindle and takes 1 500 kg. The largest has a diameter of 160 mm, an M20 x 170 mm spindle and carries a full 3 000 kg per foot. The surface is matte and all versions are supplied with 50 feet per pack; you pick the size as a variant straight on the product page.

At the top of the spindle sits a square instead of the usual wrench flats. The square gives the wrench a firm hold during assembly and height adjustment, even when the foot sits in a tight spot under a machine frame and the wrench has to be angled in from the side. The adjustment can be made with the machine standing in place; you turn, check with a spirit level and move on to the next foot.

The rubber damper does double duty. Upwards it protects the machine by softening shocks and vibration from its own operation, and downwards it protects the floor and the surroundings by breaking the structure borne noise. A compressor, a pump or a punching machine standing straight on concrete is heard through the whole building, often in adjoining rooms as well through the floor structure. The same machine on damped feet gets noticeably quieter, and the screwed joints of the machine itself are better off not vibrating loose.

The combination of steel and rubber is proven for exactly this job. The steel takes the load and the thread takes the adjustment, while the rubber provides the give that neither steel nor concrete offers. The diameter of the damper grows with the load class, from 80 mm on the smallest foot to 160 mm on the largest, so that the pressure against the floor is kept down even under heavy equipment.

Choose the size to match the weight of the machine and the number of feet, with margin. A machine rarely spreads its weight evenly; the center of gravity pulls towards the side where the motor or the heavy parts sit, so count on one or two feet carrying more than their arithmetic share. The thread size has to match the threaded hole in the frame, and the spindle length decides the adjustment range. The load values apply axially; side forces have to be taken by the rest of the installation, not by the feet.

SF37 suits compressors, pumps, fan units, machine tools and other equipment where vibration is part of everyday life. The feet are also used under test benches and measuring equipment, where a calm setup is a condition for stable readings. The zinc plated surface is made for dry indoor conditions; in a workshop, assembly hall and warehouse it stays neat and functional for a long time. Check the floor before you put the machine down: the rubber has to make contact across its full area, not balance on a concrete edge or a joint in the floor. Level the machine crosswise and check the level again after a period of operation.
