The question of grip sounds trivial until you do the math on it. An operator who pulls the same cart fifty times a shift feels the difference between a raw steel tube and a cushioned grip within the first week, in the palm and in the shoulder. A good grip is cheap work environment.
Why TPE and not hard plastic? The damping. Vibration from machines, carts and tools is partly absorbed in the elastomer instead of carrying on into the wrist, and that is felt during long shifts. The grip also insulates against cold, so a tube handle in a cold store or on an outdoor gate does not feel like ice on a winter morning. TPE contains no plasticizers that migrate out of the material; the grip does not turn sticky and does not crack the way older grips in soft PVC do after a few years.
Typical mountings in Swedish engineering: pull handles on tool carts and fixtures, control levers on machines where the original grip has dried out and cracked, bow handles on doors and service panels, steering handles on hand trucks and lift trucks in warehouses and production. Many maintenance departments keep a pack in the store. A worn or lost grip is replaced in under a minute, and the handle looks and feels like new. The same grip works just as well on home builds and in club premises of course, but it is the industrial setting that sets the real demands.
The length of the grip matters too. A grip that covers the full width of the hand with margin, even with winter gloves on, keeps the hand from sliding off when you pull hard. If you need a shorter grip, TPE is easily cut with a sharp knife; the cut comes out clean and the material does not fray.
Measure the outside diameter of the tube before you order and pick a hole size at or just under the tube size, since the grip has to sit tight so that it does not twist under load. At assembly the trick is a little soapy water or compressed air. The soapy water dries and the grip locks on; the compressed air expands the grip at the moment of assembly so that it slides on dry and sits right away. Never use oil or grease as an assembly aid, they do not dry and the grip then keeps turning on the tube.
A bare steel tube is not a handle, it is just a tube. Handle grip HG30 is a push-on grip in TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) that slides over tube ends, levers and bow handles and makes them comfortable to work with, day after day. The elastomer grips the tube by its own tension, with no glue and no screws, and the grip surface does not feel slippery even with gloves or damp hands.
HG30 has an outside diameter of 30 mm and a length of 115 mm. The hole comes in three versions with an inside diameter of 19, 22 or 25 mm; you pick the one closest to the outside diameter of the tube straight on the product page. The color is black and the surface glossy. The material is TPE throughout, a rubber-like material that is injection molded like a thermoplastic but behaves like rubber in the hand. It gives a little when you grip it, and that small amount of give is exactly what increases the contact area between hand and handle.
You buy the grip by the pack, with 50 or 400 grips per pack depending on the hole version. The number per pack makes the product just as useful for the designer who draws the grip into a new machine series as for the maintenance technician who replaces a single one. The series covers more sizes than this product; if the dimensions do not match your tube, look at the other grips in the category.
